TUESDAY CONCERT Performers
From 2025 back to 2022
Fall. 2025
Sept 23 - Woman Songwriters Night - Five acts fronted by women perform songs by their favorite woman songwriter, plus one of their own originals. Join Lila, StarSister Revival, Jeannie & Tal, Mary Conn & Bryan Hicks, and Rita Beyer & Byron James for this evening of diverse and soulful music. This is our annual benefit for the Lawrence Arts Center, our way of saying "thanks" for supporting local acoustic musicians by letting me use this space to host this series.
Sept 30 – Gerald Trimble and Jambaroque – World music - This Tuesday Concert is a rare opportunity for Lawrence world music enthusiasts to hear Gerald and his amazing band in an intimate setting. Perhaps you recently saw them improvising on traditional Celtic music at the Kansas City Irish Fest, or perhaps you heard them in one of Kansas City's gothic churches improvising on baroque music. Gerald leads one of the most unique bands in this area with their mission of "connecting cultures through the ages with cutting edge music on rare and historic instruments." This is one of the most popular bands in this series, and it is one you won't want to miss.
Oct 14 - Susan Hancock & the Bell Brothers - Elegant, classic jazz -As many of you are aware, there is a jazz renaissance happening in Lawrence right now. The Tuesday Concert Series continues to be part of this surge by featuring another one of Lawrence's many outstanding jazz singers. Join vocalist Susan Hancock for a stirring show of quintessential American Songbook favorites such as Cheek to Cheek, Makin' Whoopee, La Vie en Rose, and Funny Valentine. Joining her will be the Bell brothers, Allen (piano) and Andy (bass), two phenomenal musicians who have recently moved to Lawrence to work on their Masters in Music degrees at KU. This will be Susan's first performance in the Tuesday Concert Series and the initial performance of Bell brothers anywhere in Lawrence, so come help them feel welcomed.
Oct 21 Nichols & Millspaugh - Acoustic country blues - This week I welcome Patrick and Chris back to the Tuesday Concert Series for an evening of outstanding acoustic blues. With their dynamic combination of fingerstyle guitar, vocals and harmonica, Nichols and Millspaugh play 1920s-50s acoustic blues, folk and ragtime. This is music from a time when it was raw and diverse, but now is all too rarely heard.
Nov 4 - The Twangles - Banjo/cello jazz & pop - I am delighted to welcome The Twangles, a dynamic banjo & cello duo, to their first appearance in the Tuesday Concert Series. I booked them at this year's Lawrence Busker Fest after hearing them several times around town, and their zany energy instantly won over the crowd. To quote their Facebook page, "The Twangles are a queer dirty blues band playing spooky swamp party music." Or, as they said in a press release, "stop on by if you need a glide in your stride and/or a dip in your hip."
Nov 11 - Easy G & the Blue Notes - Blues, Folk, Originals - If you follow Lawrence's acoustic music scene, you probably are familiar with Greg Pelligreen as a singer/songwriter, a teacher at Americana Music Academy, a frequent guest sitting in with other bands, and as the producer of various open mics and music jams around town. When hot guitar leads & original songs by Warren Jurgen and solid foundational bass by Ross Black are added to the mix, Easy G & the Blue Notes comes alive with their engaging mix of Americana, acoustic blues and originals.
Nov 18 - Betsy O & the Hollaback Boys - Roots & quirky bluegrass - The Tuesday Concert Series continues the fall season of extraordinary acoustic music by welcoming Betsy O and the Hollaback Boys to their first performance in the series. If you haven't heard their high energy, original roots music and quirky bluegrass arrangements, you are in for a real treat. They describe their music as "servin’ up a crazy cocktail of pop, rock and country tunes with a bluegrass twist, alongside original roots music." I'd just say it rocks.
Dec 9 - No Bow Tie - Classical music redefined - "No Bow Tie" will close out the 19th year of the Tuesday Concert Series with a guitar performance that redefines classical music. As their website explains it, John and Myra Svoboda take the bow tie out of classical music by infusing centuries-old compositions with rebellious grooves from Blues, Bluegrass, and Rock. John is such an amazingly talented guitarist that you may never hear classical music the same again.
