Mission Statement - "None of us succeeds alone, and there’s room enough for all of us out there. You don’t have to love each other’s music. But if you respect each other’s hard work and dedication to the craft, lend a hand and support one another... Come together and help one another succeed!” Anonymous

About the Tuesday Concert Series - This is NOT an official Lawrence Arts Center event. Rather, they have generously allowed me to use their lobby as a guest production. As Lawrence Old Guard Productions I created the Tuesday Concert Series in 2004 to provide a classy, low-pressure venue for local acoustic musicians. My goal was to encourage original music in particular by creating a concert venue where audience members listened intently without distractions from talking, drinking, eating, playing foosball, etc. The series was originally held at Signs of Life Bookstore in downtown Lawrence until moving to the Lawrence Arts Center in the fall of 2010. In appreciation to the LAC for supporting local musicians, we do a fundraiser concert every year. Past fundraiser concerts included Bob Dylan Night, John Prine Night, and Ukulele Night. The current annual fundraiser is Woman Songwriter Night where musicians perform their favorite songs written by a famous songwriter.

About the Host and Producer - Tal (Larry) Carter I am a four-time champion in the Open Division of the Kansas Fiddling & Picking Contest between 1989 and 2010, playing a 10-string Cittern-Guitar that I designed. I just released newest album, English Fiddle Tunes for Piano. In addition to solo performances on piano, I play banjo and guitar in the duo "Jeannie & Tal" and in our 4-piece "Jeannie & Tal Band." As "Lawrence Old Guard Productions," I have produced a wide variety of events since the mid-1980s, including Lawrence Scottish Fest, Lawrence Bhakti Fest, the Chanting by Lamplight series, and, of course, this Tuesday Concert Series. I've started going by my longtime nickname Tal (rhymes with pal), but "Larry" is fine also.

Friends,

The fall season of the 19th year of the Tuesday Concert Series looks to be one of our best.

Sept 23 - Woman Songwriters Night

Five acts fronted by women perform songs by their favorite woman songwriter, plus one of their own originals. Join Lila, StarSister Revival, Jeannie & Tal, Mary Conn & Bryan Hicks, and Rita Beyer & Byron James for this evening of diverse and soulful music. This is our annual benefit for the Lawrence Arts Center, our way of saying "thanks" for supporting local acoustic musicians by letting me use this space to host this series for free.

Sept 30 – Gerald Trimble and Jambaroque – World music

This Tuesday Concert is a rare opportunity for Lawrence world music enthusiasts to hear Gerald and his amazing band in an intimate setting. Perhaps you recently saw them improvising on traditional Celtic music at the Kansas City Irish Fest, or perhaps you heard them in one of Kansas City's gothic churches improvising on baroque music. Gerald leads one of the most unique bands in this area with their mission of "connecting cultures through the ages with cutting edge music on rare and historic instruments." This is one of the most popular bands in this series, and it is one you won't want to miss.

Oct 14 - Susan Hancock & the Bell Brothers - Elegant, classic jazz

There is a jazz renaissance happening in Lawrence right now, and the Tuesday Concert Series continues to be part of it by featuring another of Lawrence's outstanding singers. Join vocalist Susan Hancock for a stirring show of quintessential American Songbook favorites such as Cheek to Cheek, Makin Whoopee, La Vie en Rose, and Funny Valentine. Joining her will be the Bell brothers, two phenomenal musicians who are new to Lawrence for their Masters in Music. Take in Alan (piano) and Andy (bass) as we perform in multiple languages!

Oct 21 Nichols & Millspaugh - Acoustic country blues

I am delighted to welcome Patrick and Chris back to the Tuesday Concert Series for an evening of acoustic blues. With their dynamic combination of fingerstyle guitar, vocals and harmonica, Nichols and Millspaugh play 1920s-50s acoustic blues, folk and ragtime. This is music from a time when it was raw and diverse, but now is all too rarely heard.

Nov 4 - The Twangles - Banjo/cello jazz & pop

Nov 11 - Easy G & the Blue Notes - Blues, Folk, Originals

Nov 18 - Betsy O & the Hollaback Boys - Roots & quirky bluegrass

Dec 9 - No Bow Tie - Classical music redefined
